Ikeda meets Chinese Ambassador to France

On 2 July 2009, °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¸ßÊÖ Director-General Kaname Ikeda met with His Excellency Mr. Kong Quan, Chinese Ambassador to France, at the Chinese Embassy in Paris. Director-General Ikeda briefed the Ambassador on the background and status of the development of the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¸ßÊÖ Project, especially the main outcome of the recent Council meeting.

He explained how °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¸ßÊÖ was providing an important platform for all seven Members to jointly conduct international collaboration in fusion research in order to meet the world's demands for an alternative supply of energy in the future.

The Ambassador pointed out that °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¸ßÊÖ was one of the most international mega-science collaboration projects in which China had ever participated. The success and achievements of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¸ßÊÖ would definitely offer a solution to the energy sustainability for all mankind. China would continue its support for the development of the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¸ßÊÖ Project by fulfilling its due obligations.

Director-General Ikeda and Ambassador Kong further exchanged views on the project schedule, China's current participation and that of other Members, and on the status of Chinese staff working in the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¸ßÊÖ Organization. Lastly, Ambassador Kong happily accepted an invitation to visit the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¸ßÊÖ site in Cadarache.
